SUBMISSIONS
Dren Productions is actively seeking new creative talent—teams of writers and artists alike in the Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy genres. Thank you for your interest in submitting your work to us, please read our official submission guidelines below. Good luck!
WHAT WE’LL DO FOR YOU:
Dren will utilize for the Creator its growing community to create and market your book to the world. We will setup your Kickstarter through Dren’s official page, and run your entire campaign soup to nuts. We’ll set your goal amount, create the rewards and stretch goal packages and all related tasks associated with your campaign. We will bring in additional cover artists for alternate covers to help get your campaign funded and cover their up-front expense. We will market the project to our dedicated email newsletter and growing and promote you across our massive social media footprint. We will help ensure your book gets funded. If the book does not get funded on Kickstarter you OWE NOTHING (but rest assured, we’ll make it happen).
We will also set up your book for distribution through Diamond Comics Distributors and add your books to Digital platforms like Comixology, Drive Thru Comics, Global Comix and more. Your book will also be featured in our Online Store.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Dren Productions only publishes creator-owned material in the Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy genres. We do not contract creators; we’re only interested in publishing original content for which you would retain all rights. Please do not submit any work that utilizes already-existing Dren Productions characters or otherwise —as they will automatically be declined.
TERMS:
Dren Productions publishes creator-owned/creator-generated properties and WE DON’T PAY PAGE RATES. Dren Productions takes a percentage of profit made from Kickstarter, Comic Book Shop Distribution, Digital platforms and Online Store after all expenses for printing, shipping and additional production expenses have been met. It is the responsibility of the creators to determine the division of the remaining pay between their creative team members.
Things often change from proposal to the printed page. If the intended title of your book is awkward or unwieldy, we may suggest changing it. If your logo is unreadable we may suggest changing it. There have been cases where we’ve designed logos, helped redesign characters, and recruited cover artists. However, no changes will be made without creator approval.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Artists: We accept inking, penciling, lettering, or coloring samples. These will be kept on file and you may be contacted for future Dren Productions projects. If your art-only submission is not kept on file, you will not get a response. DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL ART as your work will not be returned.
Writers: We are currently not accepting proposals from writers without accompanying artwork as part of a creative team (see Proposal Requirements below)—please do not send storyboards, scripts, notes, or manuscripts—anything other than a proposal that meets the below specifications will be automatically declined.
PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A brief, typed cover letter that summarizes your project and your previous work, if relevant. Include contact information (name, e-mail address, address, phone and fax numbers) clearly printed on the top of the page. Submissions are responded to via e-mail only.
- A typed, one page, synopsis of the overall story arc (not just of the first issue). Please keep this as succinct as possible and do include major plot points and spoilers. Tell us what sets your story apart from other comics and be clear as to who the target audience is (“Everyone” is not realistic—there is no single book on the market today that everybody buys). You can tell us whether you see it as a full color or a black-and-white book, a miniseries or an ongoing series, a prestige book or an original graphic novel. There are times, however, when we may suggest what format we think will be most successful for your story in the current market.
- Photocopies of fully inked and lettered sequential story art pages (any size, but no character sketches or bios). DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL ART as your work will not be returned. Please include a minimum of five pages that are fully inked and lettered. We may make suggestions based off these, but we are primarily concerned with your understanding of the medium and how to tell a sequential story. Color is OPTIONAL. If you have a colorist and plan on this being a colored book, it would be advisable. We may suggest a different colorist if we decide to acquire the project.
- A cover mock-up—this lets us know whether or not you understand the market and gives us a good barometer on your design sense. With creator approval, this may go through a redesign if we decide to acquire your project.
- Please submit through the form below or email your submissions to DrenProductions2000@gmail.com. We are not accepting physical submissions at this time.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
- The creative team in your pitch is the one we expect to see actually working on your book. If the artist you pitched with leaves the team, you will need to re-submit your proposal with the new creative team line-up. This also means that with all ongoing titles we need to be made aware of and approve all changes to the creative team.
- Dren Productions may be accepting submissions at comic book conventions. Please inquire at our booth.
- Due to a high volume of submissions we are unable to respond to each proposal individually. If you do not receive a reply within one month of submitting consider your proposal declined. If you do not include an e-mail address in your proposal it will automatically be declined.
- We are looking primarily for Sci-Fi, horror and fantasy comic books. But we are also looking for comics that are well written and well drawn, by people who are dedicated and can meet deadlines.
- Finally, Dren Productions, Inc. owns no intellectual properties, you can be assured—accepted or not—that your property will remain yours.
